What happened in September?
On September 28, 2014 Hong Kong officials sent police officers to the Admiralty occupation site to clear protesters. When met with resistance, law enforcement sent a wave of tear gas, pepper spray, and other means of physical force to break up the encampment. Students fought back and defended themselves with whatever they could find. They also banded together to help the injured. The night’s events inspired outrage in Hong Kong, catalyzing a protest into a full-fledged social justice movement.
